When and why did you join ENA?

I joined ENA in 2008 in order to get a discount on my CEN certification testing. I started to get involved in the annual conference and the Illinois State Council Spring Symposium for CE for my renewals and discovered the general assembly. I applied to be a delegate and met Thelma when I started attending the State council meetings and was hooked! She reeled me in and I never looked back. Just kept getting involved in more things.

As an emergency nurse, 20 years from now, where do you see yourself?

In 20 years, I plan to be retired from the ER, however Thelma is a great inspiration to me. I have to thank her for her encouragement and guidance. She really pushed me to be better and get involved and I am truly grateful for that. I hope that I can continue to stay involved in the state council even after my retirement from the ER.

Alex Cross Must Die by James Patterson

Favorite thing to do when you are not working?

I love to go camping!

Advice for the new emergency nurse.

Surround yourself with people smarter than you! Be open to others’ ideas. I always try to learn something new every day. It makes me a better nurse. Never stop learning and trying to improve yourself.
